Founded in 1981, the American School of Bombay is a private, coeducational day school that offers an educational program from kindergarten to upper secondary level for students of all nationalities. The school is based on an American-style school year of two semesters divided into four quarters, extending from mid-August to early June. Teaching is international in scope, with a US-based curriculum leading to an American high school diploma, a high school diploma with emphasis on Advanced Placement courses, and/or the International Baccalaureate diploma.

The heart of ASB’s educational program is our exceptional faculty and staff. Globally recruited, our faculty and staff deliver dynamic academic and co-curricular programs which provide an educational experience that meets the needs of each individual student. ASB’s strong commitment to professional development ensures the use of current, best instructional practices that support our approach to personalized learning. The climate of collegiality, collaboration and professionalism that permeate the educators at ASB is a model for how we expect students to interact with their peers and adults. ASB emphasizes an academic program that develops critical thinking and problem solving strategies while meeting the needs of the whole child. All students benefit from our strength in core subjects: math, science, language arts, social studies (humanities), and modern languages. In addition, superior instruction is provided in specialty areas such as: French, Spanish, Hindi, drama, band, choir, art, physical education (PE), and technology across all grade levels. ASB has been a fully accredited and recognized World International Baccalaureate (IB) School since 1998, utilizing an international curriculum with full accreditation from the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (United States). ASB offers the IB’s Primary Years Program (PYP) and Diploma Program (IB/DP). Our Middle School (Grades 6-8) and Pre-IB Programs (Grades 9–10) emphasize strong academics that prepare students for the rigor of the IB Diploma Program.

There are 782 students in ECEC3 to Grade 12, with 16 students per class in ECEC3 and ECEC4 and 18 per class in Kindergarten to Grade 12. In ECEC3, ECEC4, Kindergarten, and Grades 1–5, there is one teacher and one teacher assistant per class. The overall student/faculty ratio is 6:1.

In November of 1998, American School of Bombay moved to the Bandra Kurla Complex suburb of Mumbai for its ECEC3–Grade 12 students.  During the summer of 2012, the Bandra Kurla Complex campus was renovated to be exclusively for our Middle and High School students (Grade 6–Grade 12). The British School was established in 1963 to provide a British education to British children in India, though its doors have always been open to children from other nations. Currently there are over 500 pupils with the biggest national groups still being British and Indian. Teaching is in English and follows the National Curriculum of England, with some adaptations to take into account the culture of New Delhi and India. Students prepare for the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) examinations in secondary school and ultimately the General Certificate of Education (GCE) A-levels, with the majority proceeding on to universities in the U.K. and North America.

The Secondary School gives the student a supportive, yet challenging learning environment. Here, too, the community welcomes children from different nationalities and cultures. A highly qualified and professional staff trains students in acquiring life long skills and prepare for the internationally recognised IGCSE and IB Diploma programmes through exciting, application based class room teaching and learning.  The British School is well prepared to cater to the academic and social needs of transient students and encourages all students to constantly challenge themselves. We nurture students who are intellectually curious, creative, respectful, caring, discerning young adults, conscious of their responsibility to the community and their environment. Parents are encouraged to work in partnership with the school and support it in its mission of continual improvement. The Secondary School Curriculum (11-18 years of age) is organised to ensure that all students receive a broad, balanced and clearly articulated learning entitlement, which is coherent within each of the three key stages, as well as being progressive and continuous in nature, building upon the foundations laid during the Primary school.

Around 700 students ranging from ages 3 to 18 make the school come alive.  Tuition fees range from Rs.736,950 for Reception–Year 6, up to Rs.853,950 for Year 12 and Year 13.

The school prides itself in being a multi-national and multi-cultural community. Within this community we promote tolerance, mutual respect and valuing others’ views, even when different, or rather particularly when different from one’s own.
